Tips for Grilling a Homemade Steak on a Hot Summer’s Day

Summer is here and it’s time to enjoy the thrill of grilling a tasty cut of beef on the grill for your pure enjoyment. However, in Texas, our weather can heat up to unbearable levels during the season, and without the right precautions, grilling can not only be uncomfortable but dangerous.

Here are some Dallas steakhouse tips that can help your grilling experience become one that is both satisfying and safe.

Stay Hydrated!

If you plan on grilling to perfection, you’re going to be outside for a while. You’re not only in the heat, but you’re absorbing the heat coming directly from your flames. So, having plenty of water or sports drinks on-hand will help your body fight dehydration.

Although you may be tempted to have a cooler full of beers and booze by your grill, we say limit your alcohol intake. Alcohol is a catalyst for dehydration, so we suggest limiting your alcoholic beverages while stocking up on ice-cold water.

Set Up Your Grill in the Shade

Always make every effort to keep you and your grill shaded in order to avoid direct sun exposure. If you don’t have a covered patio or shady area naturally growing in your yard, we suggest making an investment in a flame-resistant tent or canopy that can help keep your grilling effort a comfortable one.

Plan Ahead for Tastiness and Safety

Our menu may always be ready to serve up on a whim, but cooking at home is a totally different story. Planning out your menu and timing when each dish will be prepared is essential to ensuring that your barbecue dinner is one that is constantly hot and ready.

Our suggestion is to grill your veggies and fruits first since they can easily be served cold. Then finish off your grill day working on your meats from most well-done to rarest.

Pro Safety Tips

Keep in mind that safety is paramount and you should always prevent cross-contamination between raw meats and cooked meats during the preparation process.

Handle Flare-Ups Safely

Sometimes when grilling up fattier slices of meat, the grease can create some dangerous flame flare-ups. If your meat begins to flare-up, protect your food, and face by placing the lid of your grill over the flames. Lack of oxygen will quickly quell your flames and allow you to continue grilling your meat to perfection.
