Beginner’s Guide to Delicious Steak and Wine Pairings

If going out for a delicious steak and a lovely glass of wine sounds like an amazing evening, then our Dallas steakhouse has a treat for you.

Knowing how to properly pair a steak with the perfect glass of wine can make a big difference in the quality of your meal. People assume that simply pairing red wine with red meat is adequate. However, there is a lot more to consider.

Whether you’re prepping for an upcoming homemade steak dinner or you want to impress your next date, we want to share our pairing tips with you.

Pairing Wine with High-Far Marbling Steaks

There are certain cuts of steak that have more fat than others. Fat mostly comes in the form of white marbling throughout the meat. The more marbling, the more flavor and texture a steak brings to the table.

One of our highest-quality meats that has a good amount of marbling is the ribeye. We recommend combining a ribeye steak high tannin wines. Something red and bold is perfect like a Zinfandel or Cabernet Sauvignon.

Any wine with a fruity flavor will contrast the fat content in a way that brings out the true flavor of the meat.

Pairing Filet Mignon with Wine

Filet mignon has a strong flavor, which is why we recommend pairing it with a very light red wine, such as a Pinot Noir.

Your wine should complement your meal rather than overpower it. This wine option also helps retain the flavor of any seasoning used.

Bone-in Steaks

People prefer steaks like the porterhouse and T-bone because of their bone-in, tender and firm features. These are both flavorful steaks that pair together nicely with aromatic and rich reds.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrahs, and a spicy, bold Zinfandel are some of the best wines that pair with such a meaty flavor.

Where to Buy Premium Wines

If you’re bringing your own wine to a restaurant or will be preparing food at home, it’s important that you pay close attention to selecting your wine for the night from a premium location.

As a general rule of thumb, if you can’t remember these tips, lean cuts of meat pair well with a light to medium-bodied wine. You can go with a more full-bodied selection if you choose meat with higher fat content.
